FBI Issues Warning of Possible Iranian Drone Threat to California
The memo, reportedly distributed to California agencies in recent days, stated that in early February Iran “allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United State Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California” in the event of a US attack. Federal authorities added that “they have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom responded by saying he remains “in constant coordination with security and intelligence officials” regarding threats to the state, including those linked to the Middle East conflict. He noted, “While we are not aware of any imminent threats at this time, we remain prepared for any emergency in our state.”
Local officials told media outlets that the memo is “not actionable” and described it as unverified, emphasizing that it primarily serves to keep law enforcement informed.
President Donald Trump confirmed that the government is investigating the claim and noted he has been briefed on potential Iranian sleeper cells on US soil. The alert follows the large-scale US and Israeli strikes on Iran beginning February 28, which killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and triggered a regional conflict. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US military bases in the Gulf.
