Pakistan’s army expresses concern over Indian leadership's "provocative" comments

(MENAFN) Pakistan’s armed forces on Saturday condemned what they called “provocative” remarks from Indian leaders and cautioned that a future confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours could result in “cataclysmic devastation.”

The military’s warning followed comments by India’s army chief, who told Islamabad that Indian forces “will not show restraint next time,” and urged Pakistan to stop “supporting” terrorism if it wished to maintain its standing on the world stage. Days earlier, India’s defence minister had warned that any Pakistani misstep in the Sir Creek area would be met with a “strong and decisive” response that could “change both history and geography.”

In an official release, the Pakistan army’s public arm said it had “noted with grave concern the delusional, provocative and jingoistic statements coming from the highest levels of the Indian security establishment,” and reiterated its alarm at rising rhetoric.

The statement went on: "In the face of highly provocative statements ... we caution that a future conflict might lead to cataclysmic devastation. In case a fresh round of hostilities is triggered, Pakistan shall not hold back. We shall resolutely respond, without any qualms or restraint."

Pakistan’s military also asserted it possessed both the capability and the determination to strike deep inside enemy territory, saying in the release, "This time we shall shatter the myth of geographic immunity, hitting the farthest reaches of the Indian territory."

Tensions between the neighbours escalated in late spring after an attack on April 22 at the Pahalgam resort in Indian-administered Kashmir triggered four days of fighting in May. India blamed Pakistan for the assault, a charge Islamabad denied while calling for an impartial inquiry. Following the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor against targets across the border, and Pakistan responded with its own Operation Bunyanun Marsoos.
