Trump Announces Israeli Agreement to Initial Gaza Withdrawal
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that Israel has agreed to a preliminary pullback line in Gaza, marking a crucial advancement toward securing a ceasefire and initiating a long-anticipated exchange of hostages and detainees with Hamas.
"After negotiations, Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shown to, and shared with, Hamas."
According to Trump’s message posted on Truth Social, this agreement could trigger immediate developments if confirmed by Hamas: "When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be immediately effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal, which will bring us close to the end of this 3,000 year catastrophe," Trump declared.
Prior to this announcement, Trump had appealed to Hamas to act without delay in the ongoing discussions concerning the release of captives and a potential peace accord in Gaza.
He acknowledged a temporary pause in airstrikes by Israel, suggesting it was a move made in good faith to give diplomatic efforts a chance to succeed.
"I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed. Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off," he added.
Trump's comments followed a declaration by Hamas, in which the group expressed readiness to release all Israeli detainees, both living and deceased.
Moreover, Hamas signaled its openness to transferring governance of Gaza to an impartial Palestinian leadership comprised of experts.
Nevertheless, it underscored the necessity of resolving Gaza’s future and broader Palestinian rights within a unified national Palestinian context.
